During his trip to Austin for SXSW last week, Lil Wayne sat down with hip-hop journalist Elliott Wilson for his CRWN series. In the hour-long interview, the self-described "triple OG" talks about idolizing Jay Z, his protégés Drake and Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar’s "Control" verse, Kanye West’s "Yeezus Tour", his final solo album, skateboarding, his prison memoir, and sports.
In the interview, Tunechi calls Game, Juelz Santana, Kanye West and Jim Jones the best rappers, explains why he is better than Jay-Z, tells us what guns he has and how he shoots them, getting banned from Wet Willies in Miami for putting his cigar in the owners drink, the photo of him and Birdman kissing, says The Hot Boys used to kiss as well because of black mob love, breaking up with Trina, addresses Clipse trying to start beef with him, his daughter Reginae, spending a million dollars on weed each year, and plenty more. Don’t forget, this interview took place in 2006!
Lil Wayne gets deep and personal talking about Steve Jobs’ death, why he drank syrup, why he tattooed his whole body, why he bought a Bugatti, why he learned how to play a guitar and put out a rock album, and why he learned how to skateboard. Tune also shows us a little bit of his mansion, starts to skateboard on his roof, and tells us about how he was considered a “Chief Blood” in Rikers Island.
There are no stryro-cups in this loosely Inception themed clip. Rather, Hype Williams and Weezy dreamt up nimble battery of visuals to match the pussy monster’s out-of-mind lyrics and showcase his vigorous, no-lean return to recording. The best part is the box of Huh Knee Knut cereal, when silhouette Weezy’s head falls off, when the mutant bulldog scratches his own back with the floor or when Wayne runs through a Florida footrace finish-line ribbon.
When Wayne sat court-side at a recent Miami Heat/New Orleans Hornets game he was upset that Lebron James and Dwayne Wade never came over to talk to him. “Them niggas never speak to a nigga,” he says. “They don’t chuck me the deuce or nothing. Nigga spent all that money on them fucking tickets… Come holla at me. We sit right by them little bitch-ass niggas. At least come ask me why I’m not rooting for you.”
